Wow...Really?!!

So I am really perplexed right now...I dont understand people sometimes!! Let me explain: I just read a blog where the parents decided to have some fun with their newborn who is only 3 weeks old. 3 weeks old! So the Mom wrapped her little one up in a Moby wrap then put on a oversized life jacket and took her on a wave runner--a wave runner!! 3 weeks old!! I dont know, maybe Im freaking out over nothing, or am I? I just dont see how anyone in their right mind would do something like that...so Im curious as to what your thoughts are...enlighten me please!

I have no thoughts. It's just plain wrong. She should be reported. It would work if there's a life jacket law for children.

I have mixed feelings. I took my children for jet ski rides when they were just months old. They had life jackets on and sat in front of me while I held them in place with one hand and steered with the other. We drove slowly and fairly straight, so as not to whip heads around.

Three weeks does seem young. I would worry about smothering the baby with the life jacket in the heat. And if they went fast I would be very concerned about the baby's brain and neck. I would assume they drove slowly and didn't do any crazy donuts or anything.

Then there is the "what if" factor. The likelihood of something happening while they were on their ride is slim to none. However IF something had happened, the baby would have been in serious danger.

Those are my opinions about the choice made. My opinions about the parents involved differ GREATLY!!

I have no doubt that this mother loves her child VERY much and would NEVER intentionally put her child in harm's way.

Parents nowadays are criticized for everything they do. She is this baby's mother and you are not. One day when /if you are a mother, you will be able to make your own choices regarding your baby. Whether or not we agree with everything other parents do with their children it is not our place to judge. There are FAR worse things parents do with regards to their children.

There is no GUIDE to parenting. This woman is learning as she goes. So my feeling is that we should focus more on the beam in our own eyes than the mote in hers.

I really hope that doesn't offend!! It wasn't meant to! Tone can't be sensed through the internet, so I want to be sure that my comment was taken the right way. I mean what I said in the kindest way possible. :)

Hmmm, all I know is I most definitely will not be doing that with my little one... granted she won't be born till well after the 'wave riding' season, but I think maybe that's a bit extreme. I'm sure getting out is important, but there are safer less threatening places to go with a newborn... like the library :)

I'm guessing there isn't an "extreme sports for newborns" category at any wave runner rental place.

still not sure what to think about this.

I really don't think I would have made a choice like that. If she wanted to go on a wave runner, she should have had someone babysit for her infant. She was certainly putting that baby at risk. Not very smart!! She'd probably leave the baby in a car seat in the car and run into the store for "just a second"--anything can happen. God watches over fools such as this.
